Physician in reproductive medicine
From an early age I have been fascinated by pregnancy and babies.
When, after my medicine study, I was given the opportunity to do a PhD in fertility at the VU in Amsterdam, I grabbed it with both hands.
My research was about factors that influence the chance of embryo implantation after IVF (title: Clinical aspects of endometrial receptivity).
After my PhD, I worked for a period as a doctor to become a gynaecologist.
As a single mother, this turned out to be impossible to combine with the irregular shifts and I decided to focus entirely on fertility.
I have been working as a reproductive medicine doctor for 10 years. In 2013 I started at the Diaconessenhuis in Voorburg. I continued my career at the Flevo Hospital in Almere and the UMC Utrecht. In Utrecht I focused on male subfertility. We ran a combined outpatient clinic together with the urologist. Here we saw couples where the men had no sperm cells in their semen (azoospermia) and underwent surgery to try to obtain sperm cells. This allowed ICSI treatment to be started.
The reason I chose to work at the Kinderwens Medical Center is the specialized personal care that is provided here by a small team. The fact that I get a lot of satisfaction from my work is evident from the big smile I drive home with every day
