Education

Alicia holds a master’s degree in Reproductive Science from Manchester Metropolitan University and is an HCPC-registered clinical embryologist with experience across multiple HFEA-licensed UK fertility clinics.

Experience and clinical roles

Alicia Barker joined the laboratory team at TFP Simply Fertility as a Clinical Embryologist in January 2020 after completing the NHS Scientist Training Programme in Reproductive Science at The Hewitt Fertility Centres in Liverpool and Knutsford. Dedicated to every patient that comes into our clinic, Alicia has progressed in her role to Laboratory Manager and HFEA Person Responsible.

What does a Lab Manager do?

As the Lab Manager at TFP Simply Fertility, Alicia still holds her role as a Clinical Embryologist, carrying out procedures such as egg collections, ICSI, embryo transfers and biopsy for PGT, and having regular contact with patients on their fertility journeys. Management of the lab team includes ensuring all equipment is working optimally, and staff training and development of the embryologists and lab assistants in the team is a high priority. Alicia joins multi-disciplinary meetings with consultants and nurses to ensure optimal treatment plans are made for our patients. She also has a large involvement in the donor embryo bank at TFP Simply Fertility, which was launched in September 2024. As HFEA Person Responsible, Alicia liaises with the governing body, the HFEA to ensure that the clinic is up to date with all legislation, and is always inspection ready.
