The AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone) blood test is the first step in assessing your reproductive health if you have been struggling to conceive, or wish to learn more about the best options for you if you want to try and conceive later on in life. You need to have completed a fertility assessment, including the AMH blood test, before you can start fertility treatment.

What is an AMH blood test?
The anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) blood test is the initial step in evaluating your reproductive health. It measures the hormone levels in your blood to assess your ovarian reserve, indicating the number of eggs available for potential collection during fertility treatment. It also helps to estimate how your body might react to stimulating drugs.
It's important to understand that while the AMH test provides valuable information about your egg supply, it cannot predict the quality of your eggs or your chances of becoming pregnant.
When should an AMH blood test be carried out?
The AMH blood test can be performed on any day of the month as AMH levels do not change during the menstrual cycle.
However, we recommend waiting until three months after you have stopped taking hormonal contraception as that can skew the results.
